Sunshine Coast businesses score big in the Den

Holy Crap

It is a testimony to the entrepreneurial calibre of the Sunshine Coast that in 2011 two enterprises won offers of investment on CBC's Dragons' Den.

Holy Crap, makers of "the healthiest breakfast cereal on the planet," slew the dragons with great taste, high nutrition and clever marketing. Following exposure on the show, sales exploded and will reach $5 million dollars in 2011. Owners Brian and Corin Mullins intend to double sales by expanding distribution to the U.S. and Europe. www.holycrap.ca

Side Stix

Side Stix owners slew the dragons with their comfortable, versatile, technologically advanced high performance forearm crutches. Sarah Doherty, co-principal, and an amputee since age 13, wowed the dragons with an image of her being the first amputee without an artificial limb to reach the summit of Mt. McKinley, highest mountain in North America. Two dragons sought to invest in this growing business. www.sidestix.com
